The shelf problem, even in wine country

BC's retail model splits two ways: government-run BC Liquor Stores and a fixed number of independently owned private wine and liquor stores, capped by a freeze on new private licences that runs until 2032. Each store buys its own inventory. Even a well-regarded small producer from the Naramata Bench or elsewhere in the Okanagan competes for space against wineries with existing distribution deals across both channels. Our panel spends its time finding the small producers on the losing end of that fight.

What to pour with BC salmon

Pacific salmon is the easy one. A cool-climate Okanagan Riesling or a lean Pinot Gris cuts through the richness without fighting it. Dungeness crab wants the same style of wine, maybe with a touch more acid. For something sweeter, a late-harvest Riesling next to a Nanaimo bar makes for an easy, uncomplicated match.

Shipping to British Columbia

Wine Club Canada already ships wine directly to BC addresses today. Boxes go out monthly, and delivery times vary a little depending on where in the province you are. Someone of legal drinking age needs to sign for the box, same as any province. BC was also one of nine provinces that signed the July 2026 interprovincial agreement opening direct-to-consumer alcohol sales across provincial lines, with a wider system covering beer and spirits expected by February 2027. None of that changes anything right now. Orders ship under the current rules while the wider rollout continues.
